A Way to Become Healthy

Being Lonely Can Be Very Harmful For Your Health

Loneliness can be one of the most depressing and heart-wrenching feelings for anyone.
While women have the luxury of tears and mood swings, men often resort to internal dilemma and battling the situation alone. Here is a list of reasons why being lonely can be really bad for you:

Lack of Companionship
  • With nobody to share your joys, sorrows, and other emotions with, you will tend to keep it all bottled up inside you. You might see friends, colleagues and others around you sharing their precious moments with their wives or loved ones.
  • This could create a very intense state of depression, leading to dark moods and lack of enjoyment in anything you do.
Lack of Activities
  • Since you tend to keep to yourself, there will be a lot of activities you would refrain from – activities that you are likely to indulge in along with friends, family or a partner.
  • Watching a movie, hanging out at a bar, or simply a weekend out with the kids can create many joyous moments for you to consider life truly worth living.
  • An absence of these can result in a low level of activity for your mind and body.
Lack of Will to Live
  • Strawberry is a good source of potassium, which helps in the generation of nerve impulses. It is also a rich source of Vitamin C.
  • These also change our mood for the better. Burdened by the feeling of loneliness, and the consequent want of support, a person is often likely to contemplate suicide.
  • The heart and mind stop to consider life worth going ahead with. Suicidal tendencies creeping into your thoughts can be very dangerous to you as well as to those around you.
  • Having understood the repercussions of being lonely, you must wonder how you can drive it out of your life, or at least reduce it by a considerable measure.
Spend Time with Family
  • There is nothing in this world like the support of your family.
  • Your parents, wife or children can be your support systems if you choose to make them so.
  • Do not push them away when trouble brews in your head. Share concerns with whosoever you feel close to.
Don’t Shun Your Friends
  • While you can always set the fair-weather kinds apart, your genuine friends are most likely to offer companionship and perhaps an ear, when you need it the most.
  • Even if you do not feel like talking, hanging out with the boys can give you a feeling of companionship.
Do Social Work
  • There is no better remedy to inner turmoil than serving others.
  • Try and spend some time after or before work, or on weekends, with special children, underprivileged children or physically handicapped children.
  • If you are an animal lover, you can do voluntary work at a shelter. Giving without expectations can do wonders for your mind and soul.
  • The sensibility of the suffering of the rest of the world also helps lessen one’s own dilemma to a certain extent.
Exercise
  • Hit the gym. Go for an early morning jog.
  • Make swimming every evening, or at least thrice a week, a habit.
  • Once your body feels energised, so will your mind, helping throw feelings of loneliness out of the window.
